Our California Drug Rehab Alumni Program
One of the most important aspects of long-term recovery for individuals is a strong support system and a connection to their community. In order to help our clients foster these connections and to celebrate their achievements, at Diablo Valley Drug and Alcohol Services we maintain and support a strong alumni association. Graduates of the Diablo Valley drug and alcohol treatment program have the opportunity to stay connected to friends they have made in the program and to support one another through this association. Becoming a part of the Diablo Valley alumni association allows former clients to stay in touch with staff and to give back to the community as they walk their journey of sobriety.
Diablo Valley’s Alumni Meetings
Each week, the alumni association meets in combination with our aftercare program on Wednesday evenings. This is a chance for former clients and aftercare patients to support one another. They can process any significant events or issues in their lives and engage in fellowship. Former clients can also provide feedback to one another as they navigate their new lives in sobriety. This is a chance for many patients to receive encouragement from their peers. It also serves as an added layer of accountability. By staying connected to the alumni association, our clients have access to a group of like-minded individuals. This can help them follow relapse prevention recommendations and help them process tough decisions that sometimes come up in early sobriety.
Our alumni also enjoy spending time together and fellowshipping. The Wednesday evening meetings offer a way to make positive friendships and engage socially in a safe environment. The alumni association is growing rapidly as former drug and alcohol treatment clients see the value of these relationships. In order to accommodate the increased interest in alumni involvement, we will soon be adding meeting days for alumni. This better support and foster these vital connections. It will also offer more opportunities for our alumni to stay connected.
Giving Back to the Community
One of the fundamental principles of sobriety for many individuals and recovery support groups is the importance of service or giving back to the recovery community. We are proud that our alumni count service as one of the most important tools for maintaining their own sobriety and accountability. That’s why we offer service opportunities for alumni who are interested. Alumni association meetings and intensive outpatient sessions are held in the same location and at the same time, so there are opportunities for our California drug rehab alumni to give back to new members of the Diablo Valley family if they choose to do so.
Our alumni are invited to share their stories as guest speakers with IOP clients if they decide that it would support their own journey. We are proud to have our successful graduates back to IOP sessions to encourage new clients. We find that these opportunities help both the IOP patients and the alumni to remain motivated and hopeful as they pursue lifelong freedom from drugs and alcohol.
Staying Connected to Drug and Alcohol Treatment Support
Alumni and aftercare sessions provide an essential channel for connection for many of our current and former clients. These meetings give struggling graduates of drug and alcohol treatment a chance to seek advice or help from staff. Members of the staff are always available to any client or alumnus. Other graduates of the program can also offer help and advice. These sessions also serve as a way for alumni to express and share in their successes. People can encourage one another throughout their journeys and engage in service work. This boosts self-esteem and provides motivation to stay on a healthy path.
At Diablo Valley Drug and Alcohol Services, our former clients are examples of individuals who took charge of their lives and decided to pursue their dreams in sobriety. We are proud of them and applaud their courage. Truly, we believe they deserve long-term support from us and from one another if they choose to utilize it. That’s why we support our alumni association. It’s why we encourage graduates to stay connected to the resources we offer at Diablo Valley. Our alumni community is vibrant and strong. It serves as an example of the wonderful results that come from sobriety.
