Karin Clark has worked in the mental health and substance use disorder field since 1988. Karin began her career as a high school teacher in Oakland, CA after graduating from UC Berkeley with a double major in English and Sociology and then completing graduate work in Secondary Education. Ten years later, she returned to John F Kennedy University to receive her Masters in Transpersonal Psychology from the Graduate School of Holistic Studies. She has applied this background in private practice, Dual Diagnosis (Co-occurring disorder) programs, high schools, and Substance Abuse programs in Wisconsin and California, as well as teaching courses in the field for two WI Universities.
Currently, Karin is the Senior Counselor for Diablo Valley Drug and Alcohol Services. In this role, Karin assists the Clinical Director with Intakes, Assessments, treatment plans and insurance certifications. In addition, Karin supervises the interns we are lucky enough to work with, mostly students from the Diablo Valley College Addiction Studies program. She also partners with the Eco-Therapy volunteer who helps us to develop the community garden plots we cultivate and tend. Finally, Karin facilitates our Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening IOP group, sees patients for one-one counseling sessions and develops the curriculum for the 12 week IOP program education tracts.
